Get an animal tattoo for an animal sanctuary in Brooklyn this week

If there’s one thing we love at Ecorazzi, it’s a well done vegan tattoo (with vegan ink, of course!). If staff members lived in Brooklyn, you can bet we’d be lining up at Gristle Tattoo this week for their six day fundraiser for an animal rescue organization. The available flash lets you choose between five gorgeous designs, depicting a lamb, chicks, a cow and pig, a bull, and a cock, all by artist Ligia Albarren. The lines are delicate and lovely, and would complement any tattooed vegan’s collection. Artist Jack Poohvis also has flash of his own as an option, and I love the darkly colored rabbit option. 

Remember Freddie the Bull who ran away from a New York slaughterhouse? He was sent off to live at Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue, which is where fifty percent of the proceeds from every animal tattoo will go this week. According to Bedford and Bowery, Albarren is “completely booked for this week, but will accommodate additional bookings as needed,” so make an appointment and give a call before you rent a car to go make a pilgrimage for your next piece of artwork.

Always remember to talk to any studio before booking an appointment to ask if they have vegan ink available. Most do, and are of course, more than willing to accommodate. Gristle owner Dina DiCenso told Ecorazzi, “Vegan tattoos are more than just vegan ink - it’s the soap, ointment, stencil paper and razors.  There can be animal based glycerin and lanolin in these products.  Most inks these days are vegan but if you want a real vegan tattoo, you need to make sure all the products are vegan.” Shea butter works excellent for healing, as do any gentle, vegan, soaps with antibacterial properties!
