Kristin Cavallari shares a dangerous goat’s milk cocktail for babies

Did you ever wish your life could be a little more Laguna Beach? Well, I don’t recommend getting there by taking advice from Kristin Cavallari.

Jezebel shared that in Kristin’s new book, Balancing in Heels, she’s made a homemade baby formula from goat’s milk. Mixed up with maple syrup, cod liver oil, coconut oil, and molasses, the baby-sludge came to be when her son’s showed sensitivities to cow’s milk. Heaven forbid those sensitivities illicit avoiding animal milk’s altogether.

While not all women can or choose to breast feed, goat’s milk is not a recommended replacement (alongside cow and soy varieties). Jezebel reports that a 2010 study published in Pediatrics calls feeding infants goat’s milk “dangerous.” And that’s not even referring to the poor goats. Now, not only can Cavallari fans be adding to the exploitation of animals, they can be doing so at the cost of their kids safety. Though the reports of babies fed goat’s milk are anecdotal, they include symptoms of “severe electrolyte abnormalities, metabolic acidosis, megaloblastic anemia, allergic reactions including life-threatening anaphylactic shock, hemolytic uremic syndrome, and infections.” Ie: not worth it, man.

The good news? It seems like most people’s knee-jerk reaction to this advice is one of discomfort. Now, if only we all felt equally about giving goat’s milk to adults.
